An American flag, nearly the size of a basketball court, flies on a pole that stands 130 feet tall over the Camping World headquarters in Greenville, North Carolina.
Its almost double the size of what the city’s regulations allow and now city officials are getting serious about having it cut down to size or removed.
The Greenville city council recently voted 4-2 to take civil action against Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis.
Lemonis is unmoved saying, “Not when they sue, not when I lose, not if they take me to jail, the flag is not coming down.”
Lemonis lived in Lebanon until he was adopted by a family in Miami in 1974. While in Miami, he grew up watching his family in the car dealership business flying their American flag high in the sky.
It was then that he vowed to own a business one day and fly the biggest flag he could find over it.
According to the city, Camping World has failed to pay thousands of dollars in fines, and says filing a lawsuit is necessary to remedy the zoning violation and any other pending code violations.
Despite this, Lemonis says he is ready for the fight to keep the flag flying.
He says he’s doing it to remind the kids who see it what an amazing country they live in.
