Air Force Veteran and United Airlines pilot Scott Wardle loves his job.

In September, one of his flights took a turn that many passengers know only too well.

Wardle was supposed to go to Houston and then from Houston to Phoenix. But he never made it. About 45 minutes into the flight there was a medical issue with one of the passengers.

Wardle decided to land the plane at the nearest airport, which was in Albuquerque. Over the loudspeaker, he let the passengers know they were going to make an unplanned landing to get the passenger in distress some help.

Before they could take off, part of the crew timed out….meaning, they had to end their shift. They couldn’t take off until a new crew arrived.

To make matters worse for the flyers, it was dinner time, and the airport food court was close to closing up shop for the night.

So Wardle decided to do what he could. He came up with the idea of buying pizza for everyone.  He ordered dozens of pizzas, and when they arrived, he personally served them to the passengers.

One of his passengers snapped photos of Wardle and all the boxes of pizza, and she posted the story on social media thanking him for his kindness. Those photos quickly went viral.

The Pizza Pilot story was picked up all over the nation, and Wardle was even featured on the Today Show
